How it started

Liz Patton grew up in Austin, TX, raised on 90’s Country music, but didn’t ever think about playing an instrument until a family friend started playing guitar. She got connected into the Austin bluegrass scene early on, playing in jams and dragging her parents to bluegrass festivals. Liz loved it enough she got an Associates in Commercial Music from South Plains College (iykyk) and a Bachelors in Jazz from University of Texas at Arlington.

Liz played in a couple bands in the Dallas area, but after 2020 she re-committed to playing more and going to music events, like the IBMA World of Bluegrass.

How it’s going

IBMA was a turning point, introducing Liz to some movers and shakers in the genre, who encouraged her to take her playing further. With that support, Liz moved to Colorado, making the jump to full time musician playing bass for High Lonesome. She moved on after almost a year. She now plays with a number of groups across the Front Range – primarily with a country group Ain’t From Here. (Photo: Liz, subbing on bass with Fox Crossing String Band, IBMA 2023.
