My Story
I know most of these things are written in 3rd person… Yeah, nope. I’m the one working the web page, I’m going to have a conversation with you – like something resembling a normal human being.
I started playing guitar when I was a young teen, picked up bass a few years later and fell in love with the role of a bass player in groups, and the rumble of the bass. I graduated from South Plains College with an Associates of Applied Arts – Commercial Music, and then University of Texas Arlington with a Bachelor of Arts – Jazz. Music took a back seat for several years, but I continued to play at jam sessions and with the occasional band. As with many people the social upheavals of the Covid pandemic put things in perspective. I quit being a desk jockey in October 2023 to play bass with High Lonesome, and in general be a full time musician.
I’m slowly learning the ins and outs of the music scene on Colorado’s Front Range.
Jack of all trades…
and master of none, is sometimes better than a master of one. Different styles, different situations – I’m flexible and up for a challenge.
Bluegrass and older country music are my primary genre loves, but I’ve played celtic, rock, jazz, blues, latin, and have developed a reputation in jam sessions as the bassist to grab for “crooked” tunes.
I’ve done session work, and at the Pearl Bluegrass Jam I sub regularly for other bassists on stage – or simply drop in if a group wants a bass to sit in for a set. Practice definitely helps, but I know I haven’t had my last show with 5 minutes warning.
I have four basses – the mando bass which has been put into retirement due to fragility, my ’56 Kay, and when an electric is needed I have a fretless J-bass (latest addition to the menagerie) and a fretted Dingwall electric bass.
I do offer lessons on upright bass – in person or online – and tailored to the student. I’m launching a Youtube channel of bass instruction and how-to videos.

Playing music and performing is fun – I’m known for a smile.
